Gordon/Fasano Battery - Believe
You gotta whisper the "Believe" in the title for the full effect. It's gotta be just like those old Phillies commercials. Anyway, RP and new Phillies closer Tom Gordon is on board for 2006, 2007, and 2008. It's a 3-year deal worth $18 million. The Phillies also signed C Sal Fasano to a 1-year deal worth $425,000 earlier in the day.
I can see it now. Sunday afternoon at Shea Stadium in early summer. 40,000 Mets fans on their feet. Wagner winds and pitches....3-run home run Ryan Howard. Off a lefty no less! Bottom of the ninth rolls around, Phils clinging to their newfound one run lead. Tom Gordon strikes out the side to end it culminating in back to back K's of Carlos B. and Carlos D. Fasano catches the last strike from Gordon and then heads out to give him a congratulatory handshake and pat on the butt.
