Tomas Perez out; Coste sent to AAA

Yahoo Sports reports...

Philadelphia released INF Tomas Perez and assigned INF Chris Coste to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Perez has been a utility infielder with the Phillies since 2000, while Coste, a non-roster invitee who led the Phillies with a .463 batting average in spring training. The acquisition of OF David Dellucci from Texas on Saturday night filled the roster spot they were hoping to get.

The Philadelphia Phillies Opening Day 25-man roster is set:

Mike Lieberthal, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, David Bell, Jimmy Rollins, Pat Burrell, Aaron Rowand, and Bobby Abreu will make up the regular starting eight... (8)

Sal Fasano, David Dellucci, Shane Victorino, Alex Gonzalez, and Abraham Nunez - best Phillies bench in a good long time... (5)

Jon Lieber, Brett Myers, Cory Lidle, Ryan Madson, and Gavin Floyd - 3 potentially well above average starters (Lieber, Myers, Madson), 1 guy you know what you are gonna get out of (Lidle), and 1 genuine wildcard (i.e. 1 guy you have no idea what you are gonna get out of - Floyd)...(5)

Tom Gordon will close, Arthur Rhodes will be the "eight inning guy," Ryan Franklin will be the "seventh inning guy," while Geoff Geary, Aaron Fultz, Rheal Cormier, and Julio Santana will all fill in the gaps...(7)

The roster is set. The team is ready. All they have to do now is go out and play ball. The Phillies and the Cardinals go at it in South Philly tomorrow. Jon Lieber opposes the reigning NL Cy Young winner Chris Carpenter at 3:05...should be a fun day, if the weather cooperates...

Godd move, Phils. I've never been a Perez fan anyway. Who will be the designated pie in the face guy now?

"I'll say one thing, I'll miss the pies in the face," said Ryan Howard. "I'll tell you that much. It's unfortunate to have that with anybody, but that's the business of the game that nobody really wants to look at."

Ryan Howard wonders the same thing. I'm no Perez fan either, but his release is at least a little sad - judging by the player reaction in the clubhouse anyway.
