My computer is pretty busted right now (damn those Blue Screens of Death), so updates will be sporadic for the next few days while I go off and tried to get it repaired. Just a heads up to the 3-4 regular readers out there.
According to that Wikipedia entry, Jason Fox was the Blue Screen of Death for Halloween once. What a sweet costume. I saw one guy this year wearing an A-Rod uniform, only it said "K-Rod" on the jersey. The K was backwards and everything.
Holy crap. I'm double commenting today, but this is a big one. Liriano out for the year with Tommy John. Obviously this has nothing to do with Phillies baseball or Phillies Baseball, but this sucks. His return was one of the big things I was looking forward to in '07. Stupid ligaments, always getting messed up and stuff when you're a pitcher.
Here's something for the hot stove. I read where the Phils have shown some interest in FA's Wes Helms and Mark DeRosa. Gillick has spoken with both of them.
The Rangers are working on a deal with DeRo. Back in the day, I thought DeRosa would outshine Giles for the 2B job, but Giles clearly won it 2003. In Atlanta, DeRosa was terrible at 3B causing Chipper to return to the corner. I'm not sure if the Phils would risk a position change and one good year; it might bring back memories of David Bell.
I don't think Wes Helms will be a starter, but he's defintely an upgrade over Abraham Nunez. Even so, he would be a decent backup to Howard at 1B.
From Stephen Malkmus's liner notes to the recent re-release of Pavement's "Wowee Zowee" album: "Almost passed out on the last scream on 'Half a Canyon' -- I never screamed that hard again (shades of Abreu after the 2005 HR derby)." I'm sorry, that's just cool.
