Yankees @ Phillies 3/3/06

The Philadelphia Phillies are locked up in a tight one today with the New York Yankees. The Phils took a 10-8 lead into the ninth inning before Tom Gordon gave up 2 runs and 3 hits to blow the save. Yanks prospects Melky Cabrera (4-4 on the day) and Eric Duncan played key roles in sending this game into extra innings.

Best news so far - Ryan Howard stole the show by going 4-4 with 2 titanic homeruns including one off of Yankees lefthanded reliever Ron Villone.

Worst news so far - Tom Gordon did not look good at all.

Bottom of 9th, 10-10 game
Matt Kata leads off the 9th with a single to left. Danny Sandoval follows by getting down a nice bunt to move Kata over to second - man on second, 1 out for Shawn Garrett...

Yankees decide to intentionally walk Garrett to get to Michael Bourn (sets up double play, plus it gets the lefty-lefty matchup the Yanks want). Nice to see each team trying to win this thing with a bit of strategy...

The Phillies counter by pinch hitting for Bourn with John Vanden Berg...

Vanden Berg flies out to deep centerfield on a 1-1 pitch...Chris Coste (0-1 today) has the chance to win it...

Chris Coste rips a ball down the leftfield line on an 0-1 pitch to drive in Matt Kata for the win...

11-10 Phillies victory

Yankees 10 16 1
Phillies 11 15 3

Now the game is over I'll be sure to rush right out to Subway to get my hands on the new Caribbean Lime Chicken Sandwich...
