More on Ryan Howard - 2005 NL ROY
John Sickels has a new Crystal Ball projection of Ryan Howard over at his site. It is interesting stuff. There are many caveats to the Crystal Ball feature. It merely represents one predicted outcome of a player's career and stays most loyal to tracing the career path of historically similar players (similar statistically anyway). Keep that in mind.
With that being said, I think this is an excellent educated guess of what Howard is capable of. I tend to think he'll be ever better than projected in his peak years (especially if he is still playing 81 home games a year in Philadelphia) and be a tad more productive as he ages. He is a better athlete than many fans outside of Philadelphia give him credit for and that normally helps slow down the decline phase of a player's aging curve a bit.
Also included is a Chase Utley prospect retrospective from early October. It gives a little detail about Utley's rise through the minors and how he was viewed as a prospect early on.
