Last Night in the Minors

The Phillies have gotten off to a rocky start in 2006 - the 1-6 start for the team that plays in Philly currently gets the most attention, but the organization as a whole has struggled. Some quick stats and notes on some of the organization's top young players:

AAA Scranton-WB

  • Carlos Ruiz: 1-4, 2B, RBI
  • Chris Roberson: 2-4, 2 2B, R, RBI, K, picked off second base
  • Josh Kroeger: 0-4, K
  • Danny Sandoval: 1-4, K
  • Chris Coste: 1-2, 2B, R, BB, starting catcher tonight, baserunners were 1 of 2 stealing off of him

Sandoval hit second, Ruiz third, Coste fourth, Roberson sixth, Kroeger seventh...Coste got the start at catcher while Ruiz was the DH.

Brian Sanches: 2 IP 1 H 0 ER 1 BB 1 K
Yoel Hernandez: 1 IP 0 H 0 ER 0 BB 1 K (save, 1)

These two pitchers continue to throw especially well out of the Scranton bullpen…it should be interesting to see who the Phillies reach for when they need that first in-season bullpen arm.

AA Reading

  • Michael Bourn: 0-4, SB
  • Tim Moss: N/A
  • Jason Jaramillo: 2-3, 2B, BB
  • Bryan Hansen: 0-4, K

Michael Bourn steals yet another base without actually getting a hit…he seems to do that a lot. Wonder if he knows he should be hitting since he is repeating AA and all? Hopefully the night off will get Tim Moss back on track…

High A Clearwater

  • Mike Costanzo: 1-4, 2B, RBI, K
  • Brad Harman: 0-4, K, 2 E (4 this year)

Costanzo continues to hit, but Harman’s troubles in the field continue...

Low A Lakewood

Greg Golson: 0-4, BB, 2 K, OF assist
Tim Kennelly: N/A
Welinson Baez: 2-4, 2 2B, 3 RBI, CS, E
Lou Marson: 0-4, K, E

Lakewood is a mess – Golson is another league repeater (like Bourn) that has not hit a lick thus far. It’s still very, very early though. Marson sure had a rough night all around, didn’t he?

Maximino De La Cruz: 5 IP 6 H 4 R 1 ER 1 BB 1 K

The Phillies had two starting pitchers with the last name De La Cruz pitching for their minor league affiliates tonight (the other got the start in Clearwater)...pretty weird, right?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I started them because I thought between BS&S and Beerleaguer, the big league games were covered just about as well as can be. I'll still through my two cents in as well from time to time, but will still try my darndest to keep up the minor league coverage - I love doing it.
