Garcia In; Floyd, Gonzalez Out

I'm stunned.

And not in a good way.

i like the garcia trade. i very much dislike floyd and gio gonzalez is unproven. he could end up being likely johan santana or julio santana. it's a good trade because garcia is solid and proven, plus it puts the phils in a good situation with excess starting pitching to deal...bye-bye lieber.

I've come around on the trade a good bit since it initially went down, but to argue that one guy is "proven" seems silly to me. You do realize that Freddy Garcia once a minor leaguer too...in fact, almost every single player who has ever played major league baseball was once a minor leaguer at one time. Simply filling up your team with "proven" guys will cripple you long-term and leads to bloated, $200 million Yankee-style payrolls. No thanks.

Well said. And if Gio turns into Johan Santana, this trade will be looked on as a outright disaster, no matter how well Garcia performs in '07.
