Spring Training Update

Just to prove that I am indeed still alive, I bring the masses a bit of news about the Phillies first round of spring training "cuts." Yesterday, the ballclub optioned LHP Daniel Haigwood and OF Michael Bourn to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and RHP Scott Mathieson, RHP Zack Segovia to Double-A Reading; they also reassigned C John Vanden Berg, C Jason Jaramillo, LHP Gio Gonzalez, LHP Matt White, RHP Aaron Myette, RHP Jeremy Cummings to minor league camp.

Those players will no longer get the chance to represent the now 9-4 Philadelphia Phillies in Grapefruit League play. That's right, the Phils won another one today - they jumped out to a 7-0 lead before holding on to knock of the Twins by a final of 8-3. Ryan Howard hit homerun number eight, Aaron Rowand snapped his 0-20 slide with a big day at the plate, Danny Sandoval continues to impress with the bat (we'll let the caught stealing and throwing error slide), and Travis Minix maintains his perfect spring out of the bullpen with 1.1 innings of 1-hit ball.
